  • Our Mission Statement

    Apart from being the region's premier zoo and ex-situ conservation centre, we aim to offer quality services and facilities in rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals, nature awareness, interpretation and responsible nature-tourism. We shall continue to act as a repository of wild bio-diversity and a green lung for the city of Guwahati. We shall also strive to make Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden the best and complete recreational and educational destination in the whole of North-east India.

    Introduction

    • Established in 1957.
    • The largest zoo in North-eastern India.
    • Nodal centre of ex-situ conservation and a host of awareness and outreach activities.

    Location, Area & Topography

    • Located in the heart of Guwahati city, capital of the state of Assam, N.E. India.
    • Laid out among the gently undulating Hengerabari hillocks(60-200 MSL).
    • Occupies an area of 1.75 sq.km of which c.110 h.a is natural forest.
    • Natural vista with landscaped gardens, large enclosures and perennial water bodies.

    • Covers 550 species belonging to 106 families, mostly indigenous.
    • Open to serious students and interested amateurs for study.
    • The Botanist, ASZBG provides guidance and technical information to interested visitors.
